It's September! And we have now filmed, not one, but two episodes of DFL!
Â
That's right, for anyone not following us on social media, we are beyond excited that our year-long episodic show has been picked up by film.works and is being made into a feature film. With Pirate Day and Old Town Carnival under our belts, keep an eye out for us around town at Hastings Bonfire and beyond!
Â
Without further ado here's what's happening in September including work by a couple of our previous collaborators. And scroll to the bottom for some info on what we're up to and a few opportunities!
Â
Remember to contact us before the last Friday of the month if you have something you'd like us to feature the following month.
You might know Bev Lee Harling as the musician in DFL, or you might know her because she is the most Hastings of Hastings, tracing her fishing family roots back to the 17th century. This is what she explores in her solo, autobiographical show, Ploughing the Salt Sea which gives voice to the overlooked women of Old Town. Coming back after sell-out tours and rave reviews, this is not one to be missed.

Not just one DFL celeb but two are having shows on this September! Tom Messmer brings As the Snow Falls to Hastings. A comedic drama set against the decline of pub culture, the play explores male isolation, toxic masculinity, cultural loss, and the impact of technology, asking what happens when the arts are stripped from the working class.

Over at The Stables Theatre is A Single Man by Simon Reade, based on the brilliant novel by Christopher Isherwood. Told over one ordinary day in California, 1962, this is a darkly amusing study of grief, love and loneliness, following college professor George as he grieves the death of his long-term partner Jim.

Finally, a word on what we're up to...or not up to. We've got big plans for HTP but from the get go we said we'd always try to pay creatives for their work. At the end of July, Arts Council England's application portal went down and it was announced that it wouldn't be reopening til mid-September. This has put one of our core sources of funding out of action. We could go on about the effect of this on freelance creatives, but we'll save that TED Talk for over a pint!

In the meantime, please check out these creative roles and job opportunities at The Bright Foundation and Home Live Art!
