Recap of DFL: Old Town Carnival
Short Recap (Full Recap below with pictures)
It’s Old Town Carnival where Noah and Lydia cross paths once more, this time in Butler’s Gap on George Street.
Dressed as a bucket for her part in Pram Race, Lydia continues to question Noah on his new relationship with Chloe.
Tension builds between the pair as old wounds resurface around the reason for their break-up while they figure out how to coexist in the same town.
Can they be friends after everything that happened in the past? They agree they can be, leaving together for the nearest pub despite Lydia avoiding Noah’s probing questions.
10 point recap with pictures:
01
In full Pram Race costume (a DIY’d pink bucket) an embarrassed Lydia can’t believe this is the moment she bumps into Noah again. After some teasing about her get-up, Lydia tells Noah about all the Hastings traditions she’s learnt about, which he already knows. The pair discuss what it means to be both living in the same town.
02
Since they last met, Lydia has been to Noah’s family restaurant, and Noah to Lydia’s craft shop. They missed each other on both occasions. Noah laments the challenges of keeping the restaurant going in a time where prices are rising, Lydia counters with how DFLs are keeping him in business.
03
The pair start to work towards the idea of being friends, acknowledging that it’s easier said than done. Noah believes it will be hard to be friends with so much unresolved from their past, and touches on Maddy’s involvement in their break-up, which Lydia defends.
04
We hear what Noah and Lydia were like as a couple. Lydia claims it was co-dependent and unhealthy. We learn Lydia was the one to end the relationship, on the cusp of them moving in together. Noah desperately pushes for Lydia to share why. All Lydia offers is that she changed her mind. The feeling is that there is still a lot left unsaid.
05
As Noah starts to leave, Lydia stops him by saying she misses him. She asks about his life, sharing concern about his safety as a coastguard.
06
They end up talking about the break up again. Noah asks for the ‘whole story’ that Lydia referenced at Pirate Day. Lydia wrestles with sharing that with him, but avoids it by getting Noah to try on her bucket costume.
07
Eventually relenting, Noah puts on the bucket costume. The pair joke around, Lydia throwing things at Noah to catch in the bucket. They suddenly catch themselves having too much fun together…
08
“I thought we were in love” Noah comes out with in a moment of vulnerability. Lydia meets him halfway with “I’m not made to love like that”.
09
Lydia breaks the tension by making the case for them being friends. Hastings is a small town, they have crossover in their friendship group, and most importantly they miss each other. Noah starts to come round to the idea. Some Lydia is better than no Lydia.
10
The pair leave for the pub together as music plays. Will sparks fly at the next instalment of their story, at Hastings Bonfire Night?
