Project Playwrights

Hastings Theatre Project presents ‘Project Playwrights’, an introduction to playwriting for people who think they might like to try writing for live performance.

No experience is necessary to take part. Only a desire to write specifically for theatre/live performance (rather than novel-writing, screen or poetry etc).

WHAT IS IT?

The aims of this group are:

  • to build a supportive group of playwrights

  • to help each participant build a toolkit so that by the end of the sessions writing a play feels possible!

  • to get feedback from professional theatre makers

  • to have a space to myth-bust and answer questions about being a playwright without judgements

  • to offer support and understanding on pathways to working professionally

The group will be run by Ellie Horne, ex-Literary Associate of the Royal Court Theatre, who has years of experience working with emerging playwrights and currently working in film and TV.

HOW WILL IT WORK?

Each session will include writing tasks to help build your writing muscles as well as discussions about scenes and extracts. There may sometimes be writing tasks or scene reading set for homework.

The sessions will also include visits from local theatre professionals.

There will be opportunities for the group to see shows around Hastings.

There will be an invitation at the end of the group to submit your writing for feedback from the group facilitator.

There is no fee to take part and we will try to supportive with any associated access costs; this may include an access worker, childcare costs etc.
